The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Series from the Producers of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The most recent Far Cry game that players experienced was Far Cry 6, that starred Giancarlo Esposito as the villain, Antón, and debuted on October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for embracing action and madness with equal enthusiasm, all while presenting gripping, politically driven narratives. Little surprise that FX's decision for a Far Cry limited-run show attracted two producers whose projects have represented all of those things.
What to Expect
Adapted from Ubisoft's hit video game property, the self-contained anthology series will be available on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The series will also follow the video games' structure by introducing a fresh backdrop and ensemble in subsequent series.
Key Producers
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as executive producers on the series through their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed outstanding collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is fresh, gripping, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
Upcoming Developments
Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what character that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for another season, with FX and Disney signing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Having the opportunity alongside Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, trusting us with one of the most famous video-game realms ever created. And through it all, my FX partners constantly supports me with their ongoing confidence and backing.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology show. Each game is a take of a concept, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” explained Hawley. “To produce a epic action show that can evolve from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the essence of people through this complex and unpredictable viewpoint, is a long-held aspiration. I’m thrilled to partner with Rob and present our mutual irreverent, visionary style to the television.”
A release window for when we can anticipate the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
