Around 12 historical objects were formally restored to Ethiopia after remaining by a household from Germany for over ten decades.

The items, originally collected in the early twentieth century by the German diplomat to the Ethiopian empire Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were handed over on this past Wednesday to the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the capital's university.

This collection included royal crowns, armor and artistic works, each regarded as culturally important in Ethiopia.

"These treasures still stand as a symbol of the enduring and positive connection between the German nation and Ethiopia," remarked the German diplomat, the representative to the East African country.

Dr. Ramon Wyss, whose father was delivered during the household's assignment in Ethiopia, handed over the objects at a event witnessed by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.

He explained that the household's aim to return the treasures was to "share their beauty with the public and safeguard the heritage and past linked to my parent's beginning."

The objects were either considered gifts or buys, based on the household.

"I want to thank the Weiss family for actively demonstrating their profound love for Ethiopia by meticulously safeguarding these items and importantly ensuring their homecoming to their rightful nation," commented the tourism minister.

She noted that the artefacts would soon be made accessible to the general audience for investigation and academic study, terming the decision a landmark in safeguarding Ethiopia's historical legacy.

"Actions persist to return old artifacts that are held in the possession of individuals and institutions around the globe," the minister affirmed.

During imperial control in the African continent, many of historical objects were taken.

This call by nations in Africa for the restoration of taken objects has been answered with certain positive outcomes in the past few years - even if a number of items are just on loan.

Back in 2022, the German government was the pioneering state to give back a selection of the famous Benin Bronzes to the Nigerian people in an attempt to address its "dark legacy."
