Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains an option. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I declared I won't manage another team on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. It was an incredible shock for all the boys as well. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
