Condemnation Explodes as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Widespread Criticism

Figures from across the partisan divide and the Hollywood world are coming together to condemn Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Los Angeles home, Trump took to his platform to describe the late director as "anguished and suffering". The message, he asserted Reiner's death was "because of the anger he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Developments and Detention

Police have since confirmed the detention of the couple's adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in connection with the case. It is reported his bond was set at a significant amount.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was swift and harsh.

“What a disgusting and vile statement,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly condemned the statements. Goldberg pointed to prior rhetoric from Trump about the killing of an activist, asking, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "This is a disturbed man."

Echoing this view, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "Trump has just lost it. Now saying the Reiners caused their own demise because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

Some GOP elected officials also voiced dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". She also alluded to challenges with addiction and psychological well-being within families.

Another GOP representative, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disrespectful" considering the nature of the deaths. He publicly dared others in his party to defend the comments.

The Director's Legacy and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal critic of Donald Trump. In a previous conversation, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump be reelected to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner said. "Should the United States fall, there’s a risk that democratic systems crumble around the world."

Regardless of his strong opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "complete revulsion" and denounced violence for political ends without reservation after the shooting of a different political figure.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "a specific hair product" while posing on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
