Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
